Cameo Cinema

Initially I was asked by Clare and Matt Tinnyunt in Ashburton to record a cinema built by Claire's Father in Kingsteignton. This was built by Neville Long over a couple of decades using recycled chairs, curtains, ticket machines and various projectors from redundant cinemas.

Neville was a professional projectionist (and musician) before and after World War II in Birmingham. He moved to Devon in the 60's - but his main passion was Film and Cinema. He put on many 'Film Nights' for charity and raised a lot of money for  "Action For Children". Equally he would spend many nights entertaining friends and family.

Cameo Cinema was built in a double garage next door to Neville's house, it utilised the passageway in-between the house and garage as the entrance hall and corridor into the Ticket Office. The Ticket Office had a glass window and counter where the customers bought their tickets before passing the Projection Room and entering the fifteen seat Cinema.

The Cinema had plush red velvet curtains and tiered seating (from Redundant Cinemas) which Neville managed to set out in aisles just as a real Cinema would be.
