Artist's statement - Portal


The doorway or entrance of a building is the first thing you see when you go to someone's home. What's behind the façade? Does it reflect the person that lives there? What's it like inside? All these questions come to mind when you first approach.


Why did I record these and did I know the people behind the doorways? Where are the images from?


These are the usual questions I'm asked. Like many photographers, I revel in the found object, I find the recording of the images strangely absorbing but, after five years of working on this project, should it come to an end? I don't think so, not just yet - I'm still searching for the essence of 'home'. Perhaps when I've found it I'll stop.
